BULKA's collection "Woman - Mother - Queen"
BULKA, a sustainable and slow-fashion brand, firmly stands for tradition - Holding ground seems to be more elusive than ever. The designer sees fashion as art and uses BULKA as a canvas for expressing her experiences and emotions.
The collection Woman – Mother – Queen! highlights the beauty of the feminine form using two opposite approaches. Tight fitting skirts vs voluminous kaftans or tailored short vests vs rich dresses. The presented garments are inspired by Serbian ethnic dress worn in the nineteenth and twentieth centuries. Instead of using classic embroidery, which was particularly elaborate and popular in those eras, they design they own fabrics allowing them to focus on uniqueness and originality. The embroidery is thus turned into contemporary prints and sturdy woven linen into soft flowing viscose or silk jersey. The ornaments adorning the garments are still genuine and sourced from original embroidery, frescoes paintings and architecture. These are then drawn into new and exciting intricate designs and digitally printed onto natural fabrics. BULKA uses mainly silk, viscose, cotton, wool or blends of these fabrics. Particular attention is paid to details and finishing, all done by hand.
